Launch of Island Fairtrade website

by isleofman.com 21st February 2013

A new website for the Island is being launched to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight. IoM Fairtrade Island at http://www.iom.selectfairtrade.co.uk/  is supported by the One World Centre and the Isle of Man Fairtrade Group and will provide a central resource for all things Fairtrade on the Island.

This includes:

• Explaining the background and reasons why Fairtrade is so important
• Highlighting local fairtraders who can register through an online directory
• Providing an ongoing source of advice and information for consumers
• Promoting local Fairtrade activities

The website has been developed by Peter Knowles who has spent many hours honing his web skills.  He says: “I have always been concerned about the global exploitation of producers and so select fairly trade products whenever possible. I am really pleased to be able to do something locally to help.”

Peter is encouraging tweets (@SelectFairTrade) about which fairly traded products have been spotted where so that a clear picture of all the Fairtrade activity that is happening on the Island can be built.

Rosemary Clarke, Director of the One World Centre, says: “It will be a great asset as a central place to share information about Fairtrade, particularly with Fairtrade Fortnight taking place.  We’d love to publicise any events or activities that have been organised and would welcome pictures too!”

For more details about the website or Fairtrade, contact the One World Centre on 800464 or by emailing fairtrade@manx.net.
