Nature Through the Arts

by isleofman.com 22nd February 2013

Let the Celebrations begin!

The Manx Wildlife Trust is entering its 40th year of protecting the Island’s environment. In recognition of the charity’s achievements over the years, a special event, “Nature through the Arts” will be hosted by the Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency Mr Adam Wood, at Government House on Wednesday 20th March 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm. Guests will be entertained by well known local singer, mezzo soprano Mandy Griffin. Mandy will be singing a selection of songs with a wildlife connection and accompanied on the piano by Gareth Moore. Gareth is the musical director of Sheeayn Millish and the Ballagarey Singers and is in great demand as an organist throughout the Island.

As part of this special celebration there will also be an exhibition of paintings and sculpture, all themed on the wildlife of our Island. Whilst enjoying a glass of wine and canapes, guests can admire artwork, some of which will be for sale, by well known names in the Island’s art world. Catherine James, Nancy Corkish, David Byrne, Peter Lloyd-Davis, Ann Heath and Svetlana Cameron are among those exhibiting to raise valuable funds for the Trust. Wildlife artist, Dr Jeremy Paul, three times winner of the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year award, has also generously donated a framed, original painting to be raffled on the evening.

Tickets for the event are limited, cost ?25 per person and can be obtained from the Manx Wildlife Trust’s office and shop at 7-8 Market Place, Peel. Telephone: 844432 or e-mail: enquiries@manxwt.org.uk.
