Beach Clean at Castletown - Derbyhaven

by isleofman.com 28th February 2013

The Beach Buddies Big Team Beach Clean at Castletown Bay proved to be another major success, with a stretch covering at least half a mile completely cleared by the volunteers. We collected a total of 35 bags, plus lots of large plastic canisters and a pile of fishing equipment, including some rather elderly, and very rusty, lobster pots.

There were 32 volunteers, and it was great to see some new faces. In particular, it was really good to see a group from Castletown Heritage who joined us for the first time and left with smiles on their faces - so we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

In addition, another 11 bags of rubbish were later collected by Beach Buddies at nearby Derbyhaven Bay, covering the entire beach in front of the houses.

It was another great day. The next southern beach clean will be in a fortnight’s time.

We are going to Ballaugh Cronk this coming Sunday, March 3rd, meeting at 10.30am in the car park. Litterpickers, gloves and bin bags supplied, and Beach Buddies will dispose of / recycle the rubbish afterwards. Wear decent walking boots. The weather forecast (at the moment) looks pretty good again.
