Douglas win big local derby

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2013

Douglas secured the bragging rights in the big local derby in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two with a 21-12 win over near neighbours Vagabonds.

Crucially for Douglas, they failed to pick up a bonus point and now trail league leaders Sefton by six points.

Vagas led early on with tries from Johnny Beckley and Akkie van den Berg, plus a Beckley conversion.

However, as half-time approached, Douglas struck back with tries from Andy Jones and Craig McGee, along with a Bryn Snellgrove penalty to lead 13-12 at the break.

In the second half, Snellgrove added a second penalty before hooker Craig Lea dived in for the try that sealed the match.

After last week’s huge Manx Cup performance, Ramsey slumped to a 32-6 defeat away at Moore and slipped one place closer to the dreaded relegation zone in the process.

Two Dan Bonwick penalties was the total of Ramsey’s contribution to the scoreboard and with wins for fellow strugglers Marple and Wallasey, Ramsey are perilously close to the trapdoor.

Marple visit the Mooragh Park next Saturday for what will be a huge game.
