Miners stage fightback

by isleofman.com 2nd March 2013

Laxey staged a superb second half fightback to keep alive their faint title hopes in the Canada Life Premier League.

Second half goals from Ashley Webster, Mark Wolfenden (penalty) and a last-gasp winner from Josh Thomas fired the Miners to a 3-2 victory over St John’s.

Player-manager Nick Hurt and Steven Glover had earlier put the westerners in the ascendancy as they looked set to go second in the table.

Callum Stewart scored one of the goals as Old Boys saw off lowly Gymns 2-0 at Blackberry Lane.

Doubles from Aaron Hawley, Mike Williams and one from Gareth Lloyd fired Rushen to a 5-1 win at Union Mills, whose goal was scored by Matty Cain.
