Minister questions need for upper chamber

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne says he wouldn’t miss the Legislative Council if the system were to be revamped.

Speaking on yesterday’s (Sunday) Present Politics programme on Manx Radio, he said he’d welcome changes which would mean more politicians are elected by the public.

But instead of voting for Legislative Council members, Mr Gawne said he’d scrap LegCo and have a 32-seat House of Keys.

He told John Moss legislation would still be scrutinised:
