Cav leads in Italy

by isleofman.com 7th March 2013

Mark Cavendish leads the Tirreno-Adriatico after the opening Team Time Trial.

Omega Pharma-Quick Step made light of the rainy conditions in Tuscany to finish 11 seconds clear of Movistar and 16 ahead of BMC.

Team Sky were 7th and 25 seconds down with Peter Kennaugh leading the squad across the line. Kennaugh is 36th overall and 6th in the young rider standings.

Today's second stage is a long one at 232 kilometres but is predominantly flat and should favour the sprinters.
