The Manx Saxophone Ensemble (MSE) is delighted to have engaged the services of Alistair Parnell, a leading UK saxophonist, for a weekend saxophone workshop to be held from 19th to 21st April 2013 in Douglas.
The event kicks off on Friday evening with an introductory session and continues on both Saturday and on Sunday morning in a workshop format. Attendees will learn new material as well as improve on selected pieces from the MSE's repertoire.
On Sunday 21st April at 4pm, the band will hold a free, informal concert at All Saints Church in Douglas. There will be a retiring collection to raise funds for both the church and the MSE.
In addition to working on improving the quality of the MSE's music, Alistair's focus will be on specific saxophone techniques that apply to players of all ability levels.
The weekend event is subsidised by the MSE and benefits from the generous support of the Isle of Man Arts Council. Adult participants will provide a contribution of ?25 (equivalent to a single hour of music tuition), while those in full-time education will pay just ?15.
The MSE's music director, Jem Cotton, is excited at the prospect of Alistair coming to the Island. ‘I feel that Alistair's visit will be of immense benefit both to the MSE and to other participating players. Alistair and I have worked together to create a weekend format that will be great fun for all and that will enable each of us to take away learning of lasting benefit. I was particularly impressed with Alistair's enthusiasm and flexibility in understanding and working with our group format and am looking forward to a dynamic, educational weekend.’
Musicians wishing to attend the event should contact Jem Cotton on 842874 or email saxmaster@wm.im
