One of our juniors, Sean Drewry (14) was in Leicester last month playing in a Junior Open event at Oadby LTC which was a grade 4 tournament.

Results were: seeded 4 - U14 qtr.final bt Oliver Storr 5/3 5/3. Semi-final beat Kieran Baggot 4/2, 4/0 the final versus the no. 1 seed Luke Tatman, went to a Champions Tie-break which Sean lost 4/1, 3/5 (4-10). He also played in the U16 where playing the no 3 seed he won a 1st round match 4/5, 4/1 (10-6) against Jamie Moncrieff but lost to Rohan Bassi losing (No 3 seed) 1/4 2/4. In the U18 he beat Daniel Richmond 4/0 4/0 but then lost to Alex Simpson (no.2 seed) in the qtr.final  1/4 1/4. This was all good experience and Sean’s standard is improving with every tournament he plays in. He was also away with the Isle of Man U18 Boys team playing in Welwyn, Herts. No wins there but the other teams boasted some strong 17 and 18 year olds which makes quite a difference if you are only 14.

Will any member interested in taking the St John’s Ambulance Defibrilator /CPR course please let me Pat Sharp have their names ASAP. The date is not fixed yet but I need to know who is interested. It will probably be a Saturday afternoon. We have been offered 12 places and would like to fill the course, not just with coaches but members from all ages.

A note from Sally Walker, Albany Tournament Convenor reminds all junior age group players that the ball colour changes on 1 April. You may have moved up a group so please check before entering the Nedgroup Investments (IOM) Junior Open. The closing date for this is 6 April. Any problems or queries please contact Ian Watson 496293 or Sally Walker 201310.
