1000 students and invited guests are to experience ‘Destination’ during the final week of this school term. The project aims to raise and focus aspiration. Year 9 students across the Island are making their choices of GCSE options this term and they need to make wise choices that ensure pathways for success.
Destination, generously funded by Arts Council IOM, the Department for Economic Development and the Department of Education and Children will bring to the Island’s young people an innovative new dance theatre production which seeks to raise the aspirations of young people. The project aims to motivate 13-18 year olds to maintain a sharp focus on their future plans in the hope that they are more likely to progress into successful education, employment or training. The project is to be delivered by Qdos Creates - one of Yorkshire’s leading providers of dance theatre.
The Destination tour will visit all secondary schools during the week beginning 18th March. There will also be an evening performance at Kensington Road Youth Arts centre, free of charge and open to the public, on Thursday 21st March. A post-performance creative dance-theatre based workshop is included as an opportunity to explore the different issues raised in the performance through participation.
Set at a school reunion in 2030, Destination is a journey through time which follows the different lives of three best friends. The twists and turns they face reflect the typical challenges and choices we all encounter in our professional and personal lives.
If you would like to find out more about Destination you can contact Andrew Cole, Headteacher, Castle Rushen High School on 693500, enquiries@crhs.sch.im or see www.qdoscreates.com/destination.html.
Anjie Taylor, Artistic Director of Destination and CEO of Qdos Creates says; “We really want to inspire and raise the aspirations of the Island’s young people through Destination’s original music, song, new media and set design. By using dance and drama we’re trying to show young people that it’s possible to overcome whatever life throws at you; that you can achieve whatever your goals and wherever you come from. Everyone has a potential to succeed.”
Performed by a team of professional artists (including Australian dance artist and Rambert School of Ballet graduate Nicole Guy, Jason Boyle graduate of Northern Contemporary Dance and Louise Edwards graduate of Bretton Hall) ‘Destination’ is a dynamic, thought-provoking dance theatre production touring secondary schools, colleges and youth-led organisations this Spring.
The Destination tour has been generously funded by the Department of Economic Development, Department of Education and Children, and by Arts Council IOM.
