The owner of one of the Isle of Man’s leading hair salons is introducing a new ‘dressing, hair-up and wedding hair’ training course to help her industry colleagues benefit from UK level training and her years of experience – without the huge expense of having to go to the UK to study.
Janet Lancaster, Creative Director of Salon 3, will hold a combined course, one half to be held on ‘Dressing Hair and Hair-Up’ on Monday 29 April and the second half on ‘Bridal Hair’ on Monday 13 May, where Manx hairdressers will learn to style their clients’ hair and develop their skills. Course content includes:

• Consultations
• Dressing hair, hair-ups, wedding hair styling
• Examining current and future trends
• Choosing the right style to suit face shape, skin tone, dress/jewellery and personality
• Demonstrations, hands-on practical work, theory

Janet is a multiple award-winning stylist, trainer and assessor, having been placed in her first ever UK competition when she was just 15 years old and the youngest participant. She is very conscious of the cost of specialist hairdressing training which takes place in the UK, and for Manx stylists, the additional cost of return flights off-Island, overnight accommodation and very often, childcare costs too.

She is introducing a series of training courses, beginning with this one, to share her knowledge with her industry colleagues on the Island, and help them to benefit from her years of experience in a friendly, fun and non-intimidating environment. She will be joined by Salon 3’s Senior Stylists and Wedding Co-ordinators, Lauren O’Neill and Colleen Devereau, who will help deliver training to participants.

Training will take place on a Monday, which is a hairdresser’s normal day off. It is open to stylists who wish to improve their skills, ranging from those with basic ‘dressing’ knowledge to those with more advanced skills, and will take place at Salon 3’s premises in the Peter Luis Building on Duke Street in Douglas. Participants may be able to claim a proportion of the cost back from the Department of Economic Development.

Janet commented: “Dressing hair and creating stunning wedding styles that make a Bride feel amazing is one of my biggest passions. It’s a service which needs vision, patience and the ability to work under pressure, and yet it’s one which intimidates some stylists – often because of a lack of training or practice, or available funds to go to the UK to study.

“I want to share this passion with my Manx industry colleagues, helping them to develop their skills here on the Island for a fraction of what it would normally cost, and be the best they possibly can be.
