KWC Unveils ?10,000 worth of Fitness Equipment
Parents from the Friends of KWC school committee have been congratulated this week following the much anticipated final unveiling of brand new school fitness suite equipment. Available for use by King William’s College boarding, senior, and middle 5th (year 10) pupils, the gym now benefits from the addition of almost ?10,000 worth of training equipment including, among many other items, a multi-station gym, elliptical trainer, fluid series rowing machine, Olympic weight tree, and incline/decline utility bench.
While the College itself provides pupils with the essentials for learning and school life, the Friends of KWC committee is dedicated to providing those ‘little luxuries’ designed to entertain and support pupils in their extracurricular lives. The new school fitness suite equipment is the perfect reflection of this sentiment and has already been put to extensive use by senior boys and girls sporting teams. This spring, the Senior Boys’ Rugby and Girls’ Hockey teams in particular will be making special use of the facilities as they prepare for an international tour throughout Australia which will see them compete against a series of schools as well as visit a variety of cultural landmarks in Townsville, Sydney, the Whit Sunday Islands and Fraser Island.
Past contributions on behalf of the Friends committee have resulted in extensive developments within the school’s recreational and extra-curricular facilities, including two school mini-buses, a school flag, outdoor picnic tables, audio visual equipment for the English and Music Departments, data capture equipment for the Science Department, and prize money for Arts Department competitions. Friends of KWC primarily hold two main fundraising events per year; a Christmas function, which is usually held towards the end of November and the ever-popular May Ball, held on Founders’ Day evening at the beginning of the May half term.
Commenting on the unveiling, Martin Humphreys, Principal at King William’s College enthused: “Offering our pupils the greatest diversity possible in both the activities and facilities available to them is central to sustaining a balanced extracurricular and curricular environment. The Friends of KWC play a critical role in creating this culture and I’m sure I’m joined by our pupils and staff in thanking them for their kind donations and dedication in taking the time to organise projects of this kind.”

KWC 30 Friends of King William’s College, staff, parents and pupils celebrate the official opening of the new fitness suite.
