by isleofman.com 13th March 2013

The Clinical Director of the Island's Mental Health Services has called for changes to care plans for patients.

Dr Timothy Byrne gave evidence at the inquest into the death of Christopher Burrows a 35-year-old Onchan man who took his own life in June 2011.

Mr Burrows was found hanged at his home on Main Road in Onchan after discharging himself from Grianagh Court day treatment facility two days earlier.

Dr Byrne told the hearing the way the service records information needs stream-lining and is currently under review.

He said community and hospital workers record information in different ways.

Coroner of Inquest John Needham said that could create difficulties judging a patients potential risk - Dr Byrne agreed.

Dr Byrne said Mr Burrows didn't meet the conditions needed to section him when he left hospital.

The case continues.
