Two staff members from RBS International raised money for local charities when they took part in Isle of Man Bank's annual charity Santa Dash around the streets of Douglas.
Joanne Hale from Onchan and Samantha Teare from Douglas obtained ?180 in sponsorship money from family, friends and bank colleagues and this sum was swelled by a further ?100 when they won one of the Bank's spot prizes for pre-determined, but secret, finishing positions. The money raised was split equally between the British Heart Foundation and the Salvation Army.
Said Samantha: 'We have never joined in the Santa Dash before but it was Joanne's idea to take part and run together. Although we finished towards the back of the field and didn't threaten the record it was great fun and we were delighted to receive a ?100 spot prize. Now we have got the taste for it we hope to be back again in December.'
Cheques were presented to representatives of the two organisations at a ceremony in RBS International's Howard Pearson House where Samantha and Joanne work in the Outward Payments section. Charles Sentance received the cheque on behalf of the British Heart Foundation while Angelique Gale was present on behalf of the Salvation Army.
Samantha chose the Salvation Army as her two children attend the nursery and recognises the good work it does on an all-Island basis while Joanne selected the British Heart Foundation in memory of her father who died 18 months ago from a heart attack. Said Joanne: 'I believe that more awareness is needed regarding these two charities as they help improve quality of life and offer vital support.'
