A League
Davrost (4) v Danni's Driving School (9)
Stone Art (4) v easyGym (10)
Stone Art played current league leaders easyGym and whilst they are top and bottom respectively, all did not go easyGym's way with results. Stone Art's Les Callow came close but it was not enough, losing to Dave O’Neill in straight games. Gary Corlett played well against easyGyms steady Steve Morley, taking the first and then second game by one point. Morley won the next game but lost the fourth game and match to Corlett whose game continues to improve throughout the season. Stone Art's number one, Lyndon Cheetham entertained Island number two, Malcolm Levy, games were level at one all before Levy asserted his authority in making Cheetham run and work for his points. Levy won in four games 3-1 and re-endorsed easyGym's potential claim to retain their A league title.
B League
Jewel Tech Squash Academy (17) v Outcasts (7)
Bespoke Recruitment (4) v Island Exhaust Systems (20)
All the games were played in an excellent spirit with some good banter on the courts. Shaun Callow started well with some excellent rallies by both players throughout but then Mike Hebden pulled out a few fancy moves, the three-cornered wall boast return of serve impressing the gallery and leaving Callow wondering where the ball was on several occasions. Ian Shirley and Pat Russell had some close games and it looked like Shirley had the measure of his opponent in game one but Russell battled back to win. Mark Stratford and Dave Griffiths enjoyed a great game with Stratford’s terrier-esk chasing of the ball getting a few of Griffiths’ shots but in the end a few disguised lobs had Stratford running the wrong way for the drop and the inevitable cry of "taxiiii" from the gallery, supportive as ever.. Peter Squires-Wright and Peter Sharples’ game was an enjoyable if short spectacle with Sharples kindly taking breaks between games and splashing water on his T-shirt to make it look as though he was sweating. Vix Watterson's crocodile tears got her the fifth place and it looked as though it was going to be a good decision after the first game but Ian Sheard came back on the court with his mind fully focused and eased in front with two quick games. At least it was easy to add the away team’s scores.
C League
(Mash) New Team (11) v (Bangers) Team New (14)
Jewel Tech Academy Tigers (19) v Racketeers Academy (5)
This was an enjoyable match that Tigers won 19-5 against an improving Racketeers Academy Team. Never-the-less the match was more competitive than the scoreline suggests. There were fairly routine 3-0 wins for Tigers' trio of Aareez Khan, Peter Naylor and Scott Jones, although Josef Witchell was unlucky not to take a game off Naylor. The other 2 games were dramatic in the extreme. Tigers' debutant Harry Douthwaite scrapped for the first 2 close games with Steve Wright. It looked to be going Douthwaite’s way when he won the third 15-9 only for Wright to hit back strongly and take the 4th by the same score. Douthwaite then raced away 6-0 in the fifth but was gradually pegged back before Wright took the lead for the first time at 14-13 and then winning 15-13. It was a very similar story in the final match between Tigers' Fraser Dorling and Nick Corlett. Two close games and Two one-sided games left the score at 2-2. Corlett then surged into a 10-3 lead. It looked all over for Dorling till amazingly he took 12 points in a row to win 15-10. If Tigers marched they'd be marching on!
