Further plans for IT university unveiled

by isleofman.com 21st March 2013

Further news on plans for an IT university in the Isle of Man are due to be unveiled today (Thurs 21).

The project is the brainchild of the Manx Educational Foundation, which was launched three years ago by a group of local businessmen.

Progress on their vision for an International Centre for Technology will be outlined at a presentation in the Palace Hotel this afternoon.

The foundation which has charitable status, says it wants to establish a dedicated educational centre to support the Island's own information and communications technology industry.

The longer-term vision is for the university to become a centre of IT excellence on the world stage, creating a cluster of expertise in the Island.

MD of Island firm Skanco David Butterworth is a founding member of Manx Educational Foundation.

He's appealed for support from local businesses in what he calls 'the final push' to make the university a reality - it's a project he says in which the Isle of Man economy will be the sole beneficiary.
