Power supplies may not be restored until Monday

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2013

LAST UPDATED 14.28:

The main road in Kirk Michael is still closed. A single track through the snow has been created for emergency vehicle access.
Police are urging motorists not to use it as it is causing difficulty for the emergency and supply service vehicles.
Similarly, the Kirk Michael Coast Road is also closed as it is impassable.

More than 700 homes in the Island remain without electricity this lunchtime (Saturday) and it could take a few more days before supplies are fully restored.

The west is the worst affected and MEA staff are working around the clock trying to repair the major damage caused by the extreme weather.

Crews are currently working in the Kirk Michael, Ballaugh and Bishops Court areas.

However, they’re still unable to access parts of Cronk-y-Voddy, Dalby and Patrick due to the significant snowfall.

Supplies have recently been restored in some areas of Foxdale, Crosby, Ballaugh and Bishopscourt.

Adrian Dobbins is director of network services at the MEA.

Infrastructure workers are centring their work around the Kirk Michael and Cronk-y-Voddy areas after around 12 inches of extra snow fell in the west last night.

Much of the ground the DOI made yesterday was lost overnight.

The Department is thanking the public and the emergency services for their help.

Abandoned vehicles are causing difficulties, particularly at the Braaid, where equipment trying to clear the road is unable to get through in some cases.
