Council issues 2013-2017 corporate plan

by isleofman.com 28th March 2013

Douglas Borough Council has issued its corporate plan for 2013 – 2017.

The document builds on the first plan presented in 2008 by Council leader Councillor David Christian and reflects the Council’s response to changed times when continued economic uncertainty demands that priorities be reviewed and resources channeled in ways that create efficiencies without compromising service levels.

‘The 2013-2017 corporate plan is a clear-sighted statement of intent,’ said Councillor Christian. ‘It focuses on how we can make Douglas a town in which people will want to live and work, and a town to which new businesses and investors will want to make long-term commitments.

‘The first corporate plan set the tone for the tasks ahead and saw the Council achieve maybe not all, but a significant number of objectives. Chief among those was the crucial role the Council was to play from day one in the regeneration of Douglas town centre. In this the Council’s resolve remains unshakeable and the 2013-2017 corporate plan sets out how we will continue to forge ahead with plans to revitalise Douglas, with 2013 the year when Regent Street and much of the main retail area is set to be transformed.

‘This plan develops not only the Council’s corporate but also its social and moral responsibilities. To this end the plan makes provision for strengthening links with the third sector and has pledged to put in place a third sector policy by 2014.

‘Separately the work of the newly formed standards committee will be vital in ensuring good governance while a performance management process will monitor the Council’s progress achieving objectives identified in the corporate plan.

‘The corporate plan is a carefully considered document that sets out ambitious yet realistic targets which, with the Council’s determination and clear-sighted vision, I am confident can be achieved.

‘In short this latest corporate plan will shape the Council’s thinking and strategy for the next four years, to maximise benefits to the ratepayer and the wider community of Douglas.’
