Wallasey too strong for Nomads

by isleofman.com 30th March 2013

Southern Nomads battled hard but weren’t able to retain the Cheshire Plate.

The holders went down 22-14 to Wallasey in the Easter final at Sandbach.

Nomads, playing their first match for a month, were always behind and had a disappointing start after three missed penalties inside the first 10 minutes.

Wallasey broke the deadlock after 20 minutes and extended their lead before Nomads reduced the deficit to 10-7 at the break through an Andy Lean try, converted by Mark Young.

A dominant start to the second period by Wallasey saw them extend their advantage to 22-7.

Nomads didn’t give up hope and responded through an Ian Hargreaves try, again converted by Young, but they couldn’t push on in the final 10 minutes.

Vagabonds' women's team remain firmly in contention for promotion in NC North One after an Easter Saturday demolition.

They thrashed Southport 72-0 at Ballafletcher.
