Taggart and Lee head local challenge

by isleofman.com 30th March 2013

Lloyd Taggart and Jackie Lee led the local challenge as the Easter Festival of Running continued on Easter Saturday.

After Good Friday’s opening event in Port Erin and Port St Mary, Taggart took a second place and Lee secured a third in the Peel Hill Race.

Aberdeen duo Kyle Greig and Moira Davie were the individual winners of the Hill Race with victories in the four mile men’s and three mile women’s classes respectively.

Taggart was runner-up in the men’s event ahead of Fred Slemeck from Leeds and last year’s festival winner Matt Janes from Bedford And County Athletics Club.

Janes – who won Good Friday’s opening race - is the overall favourite with one round of the festival to go, as is Polly Keen in the women’s.

Her second place in Peel, plus first spot in Good Friday’s opening event, means the Cambridge University student is in pole position for the title.

The festival concludes on Easter Day with the 5km promenade races in Douglas and 4x5km relay.
