by isleofman.com 2nd April 2013

Local organisations of all sizes are being encouraged to submit entries for the 2013 Energy Awards, which are now open to submissions. Schools are also invited to submit entries for the 2013 Junior Energy Awards which are being run in conjunction with the Department of Education and Children and kindly supported by HSBC. Winners will be announced at the 2013 Energy Expo being held in August as part of the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.

Laurence Skelly MHK, the Department Member with responsibility for Energy commented on the Energy Awards:

‘The Department is committed to helping minimise the impact of our energy use on the environment. These awards highlight excellent examples of energy saving initiatives that are being implemented across the Island. They also enable recognition of the Island’s Energy Champions and I hope this will encourage local organisations to consider potential energy saving opportunities.’

Nick Winsor, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man
commented on the Junior Energy Awards:

'We are delighted to support the Junior Energy Awards. School children understand the need for sustainability and to minimise our impact on the environment. The Junior Energy Awards provide an opportunity to recognise their creative and innovative ideas.’

Dr Ken Milne, Senior Manager for Energy Policy, Department of Economic Development added:

‘We would like to hear from any local organisation which has made significant energy savings over the course of the past year as a result of measures they have taken to make them more energy efficient. We would also like to hear from the schools regarding successful eco projects undertaken by local children. I would also like to thank HSBC for the financial support for the Junior Energy Awards. ’

Organisations wishing to submit an entry for the Energy Awards should visit the Department’s website www.gov.im/ded/Energy/energyexpo.xml to download an entry form or telephone 01624 682367.
