by isleofman.com 2nd April 2013

Following the success of the current engineering bursary scheme, the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority is again seeking bursary applications for students who are studying Engineering at University.

Chief Executive, Peter Winstanley, explained: ‘The bursary is for local students embarking on an undergraduate degree course in Engineering and is designed to encourage students to study Engineering to the highest levels.

‘The Authority will provide funding for two successful applicants towards the cost of study for the second, third and fourth years of their engineering degree course. We will consider applicants studying civil, mechanical or electrical engineering or any other courses accredited by the Engineering Council.’

Mr Winstanley added: ‘There is a growing shortage of suitably qualified and skilled engineers in the Island and we want to play our part in encouraging students to embark on an engineering career.

‘We maintain and operate water treatment plants, water distribution mains, sewage treatment plants and sewerage and we are also the flood risk management authority for the Island, and as such we need to encourage and develop engineering students for the future.

‘The Authority will offer a financial bursary of ?2,000 per academic year to two students in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of an appropriate Engineering degree course. We want to hear from students who are passionate about becoming an Engineer and can demonstrate the kind of enthusiasm which will add value to our engineering business and projects.’

Applicants should apply in writing to the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority, Tromode Road, Douglas, IM2 5PA. More details can be found at www.gov.im/water
