Retail customer service training proving to be a success

The retail customer service training courses supported by the Department of Economic Development are proving to be a success.

The Department Member with responsibility for the Retail sector, Laurence Skelly MHK, presented certificates earlier this week to participants who successfully completed the April 2013 course.

He commented:

‘The courses have been running since last October and are specifically tailored to the needs of local retailers. They have proved to be extremely successful to date. The course is completely free to retailers as it is currently being funded by the Department as part of our commitment to supporting the Retail sector. There is still availability on the May, June and July courses but they are filling up fast so I would encourage local retailers to take advantage of this valuable opportunity. We are committed to helping them provide first class customer service to residents and visitors alike.’

The courses have been hosted by the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education.  Trish Lovekin, Lecturer, Isle of Man College, who has been helping to deliver the courses said:

‘The course had been a great success to date and we have received excellent feedback from employees taking part as well as from employers who had sent their staff. We are so impressed with how the course has gone that we are now considering introducing a professional qualification that local retail employees can study for.’

Major local retailer Robinson’s have sent a number of their staff on the courses.

Janna Horsthuis, Director of Robinson’s, added:

‘We would definitely recommend this course to other retailers. All our staff who participated enjoyed the course and are now putting into practice what that learned on it.  We are now incorporating this learning into a Standard Customer Service Procedure for all parts of our business.’
