Douglas Fire Crews attend house fire

by isleofman.com 12th April 2013
At approximately 14.15hrs yesterday, Thursday 11th April, crews from Douglas Fire Station were dispatched to a report of a house fire in one of the chalets to the rear of Shoprite, Victoria Road Douglas.

Upon their arrival crews were confronted with thick black smoke issuing from the front door of the property.  2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building using a high pressure hose reel and a thermal image camera.  Crews quickly discovered that all residents were accounted for and that there was no one in the property at the time of the fire.  The fire was located in the ground floor bathroom of the property and was extinguished using a high pressure hose reel.  Crews later used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the property of smoke.

The cause of the fire is thought to have been a number of candles left unattended in the bathroom causing the plastic sink to ignite.  There was fire damage throughout the bathroom area along with smoke damage to the rest of the property.

Fire crews left the scene at approximately 15.00
