Hockey set for last day showdowns

by isleofman.com 13th April 2013

It’s all set for an end of season showdown to determine who wins the Wi-Manx Men’s Premier Division.

Reigning champions and leaders Bacchas A remain well out in front on goal difference after another demolition.

They saw off Ramsey – who albeit played the entire match with nine men – thanks to strikes from Andy Whiting (five), Alex Bell (four), Johnny Callow (three), Jamie Brown, Tom Wilson, James Wright and Phil Goddard.

It finished 16-0.

While a draw would see Bacchas retain the title next Saturday, Valkyrs A know if they win the head to head they’ll be champions.

They also won well with a 4-1 success over Vikings A, courtesy of Russell Miller, Ste Lowe, Gareth Morris, and Chris Thomas.

Conor Byrne notched the Vikings’ consolation.

Bacchas B consolidated third spot but were pushed hard by lowly Vikings B.

Tom Beresford (two) and Tom Evans were the scorers in a 3-2 win.

Ian Perry and Ieuan Williams replied for Vikings B who will now meet Valkyrs B in a last-day relegation clash.

Valkyrs B were beaten 5-1 by fourth placed Castletown A.

Regular marksman Christian Steriopolous was the hero with a hat-trick.

Paul Kelly and a Harry Brindle penalty saw the southerners home.

Bacchas A have leapfrogged Castletown A into fourth spot in the Wi-Manx Women’s Premier Division.

Cat Hodgson (two), Sam Franklin (two) and Laura Atkinson scored the goals as a surprisingly one-sided encounter ended 5-0.

Ramsey A are up to second after a 5-1 victory over Bacchas B.

Alison Breen hit a double and Julie Chesterton, Christina Kermeen and Amy Stoutt also found the net.

Castletown B’s time in the top flight has ended after one season.

That’s after they lost 5-2 at Valkyrs B.

The southerners’ goals were scored by Rebecca Jacobs and Danielle Oates.
