New home for Isle of Man’s top music store

Musician in the Isle of Man are set to benefit thanks to the Island’s longest established music store deciding to move to a new home.

Peter Norris Music opened its doors last Friday (April 12) at 54 Bucks Road, Douglas – formerly the site of Aldridge Audio - just around the corner from its previous base in Finch Road.

The biggest impact of the move is the creation of a self-contained space suitable for out of hours tuition.

While the family-run business offered tuition at its previous premises this new facility has its own separate entrance and can be used outside of regular shop hours, thus allowing greater flexibility for lessons to be held on the premises.

Owned since 2006 by Ken Mitchell, Peter Norris Music stocks a wide range of musical instruments including electric and acoustic guitars, pianos, keyboards, violins, wind instruments and drums by the world’s leading instrument manufacturers.

It also sells amplifiers, PAs, sheet music, instruction DVDs and accessories.

The new look store is now over three floors – with the top floor reserved for tuition. The ground floor is the display area for electric guitars, amps and other instruments and the first floor features separate rooms for percussion and acoustic guitars.

And acoustic players looking for their ideal instrument are in for a treat as there is now a special room just for the higher-end models. This is ideal for musicians who may want a little bit of privacy while trying out their dream guitars.

To celebrate the move there are a number of special offers for musicians.

Ken, who recently became a grandfather, said: “This is an exciting new chapter in the businesses history. We are delighted with our new home and are glad that the tuition space will be able to be used out of hours.

“We look forward to welcoming all our musician friends to the store and thank them for their support. Our loyalty card scheme is proving popular and now is a great time to sign up to it and take advantage of our special offers.”

The store, established in 1989 by Peter Norris, plays an essential role in the Isle of Man’s community.

Peter retired in 2006 and since then it has been a real family affair – Ken’s three sons Rob, Dan and Pete are involved in the business while well known musician David Holland is the keyboard and webmeister.

Ken and his staff are all musicians and they are always on hand to offer friendly advice when it comes to buying instruments or accessories.

The shop’s website, www.peternorrismusic.co.im and phone number, 661794, will remain the same.
