by isleofman.com 15th April 2013

The new Shannon class RNLI lifeboat visited Peel on Sunday afternoon (14th April) in a gale force 8 gusting 9 to be greeted by a keen crowd of station personnel and interested onlookers.

Having left Ramsey the crew travelled via the Point of Ayre and arrived in Peel mid afternoon after what the crew described as a comfortable trip. The boat spent time in Peel letting the local crew have a look at the high tec boat and gave several of the local crew short trips to let them appreciate the abilities of the new boat. Several of them commented on the manoeuvrability and comfort of the boat which several described as fantastic. The Shannon which is the new era of lifeboats is to replace the current Mersey class currently at Peel and Ramsey and will cost in excess of 1.5 million pounds.
