The Macmillan Cancer Support charity is being assisted by Manx Telecom during a visit to the Island later this month. The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Bus service will visit for a week beginning on April 22 and will tour the Island to bring information, support and advice to members of the general public. All information is free and confidential and no appointment is needed.
The charity has visited the Isle of Man for the past six years and having internet access while on the move is essential for the Macmillan team to access online resources with more detailed literature on different types of cancers, financial support, welfare support, grants, and contacts for further support. Therefore, Manx Telecom has donated two 3G internet dongles to provide mobile broadband for the duration of the visit. Chantal Lowson, Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mobile Information Services Logistics Lead for the East Midlands and North of England, thanked Manx Telecom for their support and commented:
“The Macmillan Cancer Information Bus provides an opportunity to extend the services of the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre at Noble’s Hospital. Cancer information will be available directly within the community when the bus visits the different parts of the Island. Having internet access thanks to this generous offer from Manx Telecom will really help our service during the visit.”
Voirrey Barron, Manx Telecom Marketing Communications Manager, said the company was delighted to be able to support the charity. The itinerary for the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Bus visit is as follows:
• Monday 22 April – 10am to 4pm: Port Erin - Shoprite Car Park, Bridson Street.
• Tuesday 23 April – 10am to 4pm: Ramsey - Shoprite, Bowring Road.
• Wednesday 24 April and Thursday 25 April – 10.30am to 4.30pm both days: Douglas - Castle Street (near to Tower House Shopping Centre).
