Road map to a fairer deal for disabled people

by isleofman.com 18th April 2013

The Social Care minister will publish a 'road map' for new laws giving a fairer deal to disabled people by the end of the year.

An attempt was made in Tynwald this week to force the Manx government to implement the Disability Discrimination Act as soon as possible. It was given royal assent in 2006.

After some debate, it was eventually passed in amended form which will see a progressive introduction of measures.

The Act would make it unlawful to discriminate against disabled people in areas from employment and education to transport and access to buildings.

Social Care minister Chris Robertshaw's amendment will see a progress report given to the court by the end of the year.

Mrs Beecroft says she's disappointed her motion wasn't passed in its original form
