Beach Buddies Update

by isleofman.com 18th April 2013

Beach Buddies has been featured in a report on beach cleaning, issued by Suffolk Coast and Heaths ANOB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), following the success of the organisation in the Isle of Man.

Beach Buddies provided a large amount of information to the Suffolk organisation earlier this year, explaining the methods we use to recycle materials, where possible, and to give advice on how to recruit volunteers.

The report contains a section about Beach Buddies, and a photograph of a beach clean at Ballaugh Cronk which shows the different coloured bags we use to separate recyclable materials at source.

Author of the report, Sean Cunnicliffe, said that he had encountered "a significant degree of scepticism and a great diversity of approaches to recycling in Suffolk", leading him to conclude that "the decision to recycle and means of recycling should be left with the respective volunteer organisers rather than be made an official requirement by either the AONB or Marine Conservation Society."

Beach Buddies has agreed to share further beach cleaning information and guidelines, and to continue to provide consultancy to the Suffolk scheme in the future.
