Auldyn Infants School has won the Ramsey primary schools’ daffodil bulb competition for the third year in succession.
The 33rd year of the competition, organised by Ramsey Town Commissioners, saw Auldyn Infants School triumph over Scoill Ree Gorree in a closely fought contest.
Each year the Commissioners provide the two schools with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The bulbs are grown by the pupils at home then brought to school for judging in early spring by local horticultural expert Pat Goodway and the Commission’s head gardener Bob Cunningham.
Presenting the prizes at Auldyn Infants School Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Captain Nigel Malpass congratulated pupils at both schools for their outstanding horticultural efforts and said among his many engagements the daffodil awards ceremony was always one of the most enjoyable.
Five-year-old Jake Kinrade won the Best Decorated Pot category while four-year-old Mia Rose Long took away the Best Bulb award.
The pair received certificates and vouchers to be spent in stores in Ramsey: ?6 for best pot, ?10 for best bulb.
