St. George's are Champions again

by isleofman.com 18th April 2013

St. George's have won the Canada Life Premier League title.

It's the eighth top flight success for the club in the last ten years.

On Wednesday evening at Glencrutchery Road, in gale force winds, they beat Old Boys 3-0 with goals from Frank Jones (2) and Sam Caine.

At the final whistle, they had to wait for news from Glen Road where rivals Laxey were playing relegation-threatened Ramsey.

The northerners went 2-0 up with strikes from Martin Torr and Biagoy Smilanov.

But Laxey fought back with two late goals from Mark Wolfenden.

However, a draw wasn't good enough for them to stay in the title chase and the celebrations started at St. George's.

Marown have been relegated after a 7-2 thrashing at home to Rushen with Mike Williams on target four times.

In Division Two, Colby kept their promotion challenge on track with a 2-0 win at Ayre thanks to goals from Sam Renshaw and Steven Leece.

And Pulrose defeated Braddan 6-4 with Aron Raby scoring four for the home side.
