Favourites to clash in last four

by isleofman.com 20th April 2013

The two favourites for the Ascot Hotel Junior Cup will clash in next Saturday’s semi-finals.

For the third week in a row, Old Boys won the tie of the round, defeating St George’s 4-0 at Blackberry Lane, courtesy of goals from Darren Hudgeon (two), Chris Coxon and Dean France.

That earned a semi-final tie at holders Peel who saw off western adversaries Foxdale 6-2.

Doubles from Gary Smith and Dan Corkhill and one apiece from Daniel Pickering and Aaron Costain secured a comfortable victory.

Craig Gelling grabbed both for the battling Combination Two side.

Union Mills overturned a half-time deficit to book their semi-final spot at Garey Mooar.

Adam Haye and Juan Corkish goals had put St John’s in the driving seat at the break.

However, Ian Drake, Lee Christian and an own goal completed a superb turnaround in the second half to fire the home side into the last four.

There they will host Corinthians who overcame Douglas Athletic 4-1, thanks to goals from Dave Bignall, Nigel Moody (two, one pen) and Robert Bentley.

Aaron Peters netted for spirited Athletic.
