Mooragh Park Ladies Bowling Team secures new sponsorship deal

by isleofman.com 23rd April 2013

Raymotors Automotive Group of Ramsey is the new sponsor of Mooragh Park Ladies Bowling Team, which is part of North Ramsey Bowling Club.

The Island’s leading automotive group has signed a two-year agreement to support the team’s two divisions, the Open Age League and the Over 60s. Seventeen ladies play for Mooragh Park, aged between 13 and 78, and normally compete in two competitions every weekend as well as league matches. Their season runs from April to September; some players also compete in the Winter League.

Mooragh Park Ladies Team plays to a high standard; having won the league last year, it has qualified to compete in the British Club Championship in Shrewsbury on 28 April. Individually, its oldest member, 78 year old Lilian Slinger, won the Ladies Manx Championship last year.  Its youngest member, 13 year old Kelly Martin, began playing at the age of six and has just begun to play league matches to get her used to competing.

The sponsorship provided by Raymotors Automotive Group has enabled the team to purchase new kit for all of its members, and will assist them with a recruitment campaign to get more people interested in the sport. In addition, it will also help them with their coaching programme; three team members are coaches for the Manx Youth Games Northern team.

David Casement and Christine Radcliffe, Co-Directors of Raymotors Automotive Group, commented:

“Supporting local teams and groups is something we are very passionate about and so we’re very pleased we are the new sponsor of the Mooragh Park Ladies Bowling Team. It is great to see so many ladies actively taking part in the sport with such enthusiasm and we wish them the best of luck for the season ahead.”

Helen Martin, Captain of Mooragh Park Ladies Bowling Team, said: “In the current financial climate it is so difficult to get any financial assistance, and so when Raymotors Automotive Group stepped forward and agreed to sponsor Mooragh Park Ladies, we were delighted.  We have a varied age group in our team, making bowls a sport for any age. This is fantastic news as we head away to compete next week in the British Club Championship in Shrewsbury at the weekend.”
