The One World Centre is pleased to announce that ?2,050.16 was raised from the Isle of Man in the recent Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria.

The money raised for DEC appeals is sent for further distribution to British aid and humanitarian agencies working in the area.

Over four million people have been displaced by the conflict within Syria and are in need of urgent help after two years of war has left many areas devastated and with little access to food and healthcare.  The number of refugees fleeing to neighbouring countries has grown to over 1.4 million and continues to increase daily putting a growing strain on already stretched resources in the region.

Rosemary Clarke, director of the One World Centre, said “We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the collection, and to everyone who has contributed.  The situation in Syria is desperate for those who have been forced to flee their homes and we are glad to be able to help British aid agencies working so hard to improve conditions there.”

Contributions to the appeal can still be made online at www.dec.org.uk or through collections at the local Oxfam and Save the Children shops.
