The 2013 Manx Classic, the three-day sprint and hillclimb for vintage, classic and modern sports cars gets underway today (Thursday 25 April) from the TT Grandstand in Douglas.
More than eight-five cars will be under starters orders for the Governor’s Sprint, from 12 noon to 3pm and again from 6pm to 9.30pm. The sprint sees cars begin in the TT Grandstand pitlane and run back along Glencrutchery Road, through Governor’s Dip to the finish on the TT old road at the Nook.
The cars, ranging from 1921 Bugatti to a 2010 Ford Focus ST, will be viewable in the open paddock at the back of the TT Grandstand throughout the event.
The action moves to the Sloc hillclimb, north of Port Erin, on Friday 26 April where cars will be timed up the hill towards Cronk ny Arrey Laa.
The final event, on Saturday 27 April, will run out of Ramsey. The Lhergy Frissell hillclimb uses part of the TT course, from Barrule Park to the 26th Milestone.
In an echo of the first Mannin Beg race eighty years ago, in 1933, a number of cars from that era will once again be competing at a motorsport event in the Isle of Man: vintage MGs, Frazer Nashes, Bugattis and Rileys will take part in the 2013 Manx Classic, as they did in the “Round the Houses” race around Douglas all those years ago.
A great range of competition cars will take part in this year’s event, from rare vintage models, through 1960s and 70s classic such as Escorts and Minis to modern sports cars including Caterhams, Mitsubishis and Subarus. This year also sees a good showing of Austin Healeys and Triumphs and the return of the popular GT40s.
