Barclays Wealth and Investment Management staff in the Isle of Man have chosen to support The Children’s Centre and Hospice Isle of Man as joint ‘charities of the year.’ Through various fundraising activities held in 2013 Barclays staff have managed to raise ?2000 for each charity so far.

The Children’s Centre works with children, young people and families in 15 locations across the Island. Through the Children’s Centre, children and young people are offered care, play, learning and residential care. For families, the Children’s Centre offers parents support throughout pregnancy into teenage years and offers advice on a range of issues including divorce, contact and child behaviour.

John Knight, Chief Executive, The Children's Centre; “The Children’s Centre is delighted to have been chosen as one of Barclays’ charities of the year for 2013, and we are looking forward to working with them on a wide variety of fundraising events and activities this year. Barclays is clearly committed to supporting charities and actively encourages it employees to become involved with charitable initiatives. We have already seen a huge amount of enthusiasm from many of the staff, who are willingly committing their time and energy to support us, and we are immensely grateful to them. The funds raised will ensure we continue to deliver our charitable services such as Out2Play, MOBEX, the Child Contact Centre and the Community Farm.”

Hospice Isle of Man was established in 1983 and provides specialist palliative care for patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness. The care includes physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects and is provided by a multidisciplinary team free of charge. Hospice Isle of Man also runs a children’s wing called Rebecca House which provides respite, palliative and end of life care for children from birth to 18 years.

Mary Doyle, PR & Marketing Manager said “Hospice Isle of Man is absolutely delighted to be nominated as Barclays’ joint charity of the year. Having previously worked with their staff we know first-hand what a tremendous team they are. We are really looking forward to a great partnership for 2013.”

Chair of the Barclays Isle of Man Charity Committee Stuart Nelson said: “This year’s chosen charities provide invaluable support for the Island across a very broad range of needs. We are planning a variety of activities throughout the year to help raise funds and we are currently developing employee volunteering programmes too. Barclays’ support for the fundraising efforts of its employees through a ? for ? scheme and allowances for people who volunteer their time helps achieves even more for these worthwhile causes.”
