Dale Cregan apologises to his mother for murder of Fiona Bone

by isleofman.com 28th April 2013

Dale Cregan’s mother has described the murder of police officer Fiona Bone as “very sad”.

Anita Cregan was giving evidence in the trial of her son on two counts of murder.

Cregan, 29, has already admitted murdering Fiona, who was from the Isle of Man, and her colleague Nicola Hughes.

On Friday, Ms Cregan said he had apologised to her for the murders and for wrecking the lives of his family.

The trial at Preston Crown Court has heard how Cregan lured Fiona and Nicola into an ambush before killing them in a gun and grenade attack last September.

Anita Cregan has been giving evidence on behalf of her son’s co-defendant Francis Dixon.

Prosecution QC Nicholas Clarke asked why he had killed the pair – Ms Cregan said: “He told me in prison you need to know the full extent of this case. We have had threats. My grandchildren were going to be tortured.”

The case continues.
