Microgaming is pleased to announce that the Microgaming Superstars 2013 event raised over ?2000 for the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association. All proceeds will go towards sending local athletes to compete in the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014.

Microgaming Superstars 2013 took place on Sunday 17th March at the NSC. Based on the popular 1970’s television programme, contestants competed in a range of sporting disciplines including wall climbing, gym tests, basketball, table tennis and swimming.  Participants could compete individually or within a team of four; in total 40 athletes battled it out to become the ultimate individual or team Superstar.

In a tight encounter, Campbell Guy, a keen badminton player and teacher at Ramsey Grammar High School, took the Microgaming Superstars individual crown with a total of 62 points. Just six points behind, in a respectable 2nd place was Ben Scott, a long distance runner who won the Isle of Man Marathon in 2009. In 3rd place was Neil Brogan, a local football player, who achieved a total of 51 points.

In the battle of the teams, the Blue Team comprising Stuart Taylor, Daniel Buckross, Sean Reaney and Ben Brand were victorious with 29 points, just ahead of rivals Team SMP and Carrefour who came joint second with 27 points.

Amongst the impressive turnout of competitors was Zoe Shimmin, the only female athlete to take part. Zoe put in a stellar performance, impressing her fellow competitors with her performance in the strength and agility discipline, finishing joint second.

In total, the Microgaming sponsored event raised over ?2000 for the Commonwealth Games Association. Funds were raised through competitor entry fees; all individual participants were asked to raise ?250 whilst teams were required to raise ?500 in sponsorship.

Juliet Holt, President of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association, thanked the organisers, sponsors, and all the competitors for supporting the event which made a valuable contribution to the Island’s team for Glasgow 2014.

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming says: “We would like to say a huge thank you to every person that was involved in making the Microgaming Superstars 2013 event such a great success. To raise ?2000 for the Commonwealth Games Association is fantastic and we know that our local athletes will benefit greatly from the money raised.”

Microgaming supports many local sporting clubs and activities through sponsorship deals. Most recently, Microgaming has implemented a Sports Ambassador programme. The first two athletes to become Microgaming Ambassadors are Keith Gerrard, 2012 and 2013 English National Cross Country Champion, and swimmer Laura Kinley who was recently named Isle of Man Under-21 Sportswoman of the Year. Both are receiving assistance from Microgaming to help them achieve their sporting goals which includes competing in the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014.
