Spring fashion show calls for an encore!

by isleofman.com 30th April 2013

Local midwives, nurses, hospital porters, staff & volunteers turned models for an evening of fun, fashion and fundraising at Douglas Golf Club on Thursday night (April 25).

Two local charities came together for the event organised by Liz Vipond, a midwife at Nobles Hospital, who brought her team together to raise funds for Crossroads Care and Hospice Isle of Man.

Twenty-four midwives, nurses and  porters from Nobles Hospital along with nurses from Rebecca House the children’s hospice, staff & volunteers from Hospice shops modelled clothes found in the two charities shops around the Island.

The theme was spring with the audience enjoying top tips and on trend pieces for this season with outfits styled for a garden party, summer wedding, the office, beach, BBQ and even a bride and her wedding party!

Local compere Hazel Fisher hosted the evening, which raised over ?1,200 to be split between both causes.

Alex Wilson, Fundraising Coordinator for Crossroads Care, said: “It’s fantastic to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things to raise funds for two worthy local charities – and to thoroughly enjoy doing it!  It always amazes me to see the quantity and quality donations we receive into our charity shops in Douglas and that you can get an entire outfit – sometimes new with tags – for as little as ?6!”

“The total raised on the night will be injected back into our charitable services which are primarily for anyone looking after a loved one with an illness, disability or frailty on the Island.  The evening was such a success and enjoyed by all we may have to plan a similar event for Autumn / Winter fashions later this year!”

Tina Lawton, Manager of Hospice Shops Iom, said: “a huge thank you must be given to all involved in this event from the organisers, the venue, the very brave models, all the behind the scene people who make events like this such a success and great fun and the supporters that came along on the night.  Here’s to the next one!”

Models were styled by Barbara Coney and Heather Maddrell MUA and Hot Gossip Hair Salon and Nail Bar.  Donations to the raffle included a printer from Waltons Digital World, a voucher for dinner for 4 people at the Mount Murray Hotel & Country Club and a free blow dry from Janet Sales.  Official photographs from the event can be downloaded from www.babbphotography.com.
