Criticism of Bishop is 'misplaced'

A senior Anglican clergyman in the Island has stepped into the debate over a change programme underway in the church.

Archdeacon Andrew Brown has rebuffed disaffected parishioners concerned over re-organisation of the diocese, led by Bishop Robert Paterson.

Divisions surfaced last week when former Lieutenant Governor Sir Laurence New resigned from lay positions at St Matthew's Church in Douglas over the choice of a new priest.

He and others have accused the Bishop of creating distress and unhappiness by riding roughshod over many churchgoers' views.

However, Archdeacon Brown says the criticism is misplaced:
