Construction site death probe continues

by isleofman.com 2nd May 2013

Investigations are continuing this morning after a man died in an incident at a construction site in Kirk Michael.

The 55-year-old, who hasn’t yet been named by police, died from his injuries after a work-related accident.

He’s thought to be a contractor working on the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority’s treatment works in Balleira Road.

Police say they were called to the site shortly before 11.30 yesterday morning.

The site will eventually be a new sewage treatment works serving the village Kirk Michael and is being built to replace the old infrastructure.

The Water and Sewerage Authority says although the work’s being carried out on its behalf, the site is currently in the hands of a private contractor.

A spokesman for the authority described the incident as very sad, and said the organisation would cooperate with any investigation.

The Island’s Health and Safety at Work Inspectorate is currently leading a probe into the death.
