Fire Services attend property in Ramsey

by isleofman.com 2nd May 2013
On Wednesday afternoon Fire Crews from Ramsey, were dispatched by the Emergency Services Joint Control Room to a report of smell of burning and some smoke within a room at a property in Fairfield Avenue, Ramsey.

Upon the arrival of the first fire appliance crews quickly identified the source of smoke to be from a window frame which had been scorched by the sun’s rays reflecting from a makeup mirror located next to the window. The area around the window frame was checked for fire spread and made safe.

Fire Safety Message

You should be careful when placing magnifying glass, mirrors or any other glass object capable of focussing the sun’s rays, in a position adjacent to windows - especially those that are south facing.

Shutting internal doors should be something that you do not only as part of a bedtime routine - but also whenever you leave your home unattended, as even a light internal door will prevent smoke and heat from damaging rooms and contents remote from the source of a fire.
