Baroness Newlove launches Victim Support campaign

The UK's first Victims Commissioner says the views of victims in the Island should be placed at the centre of any reforms to the criminal justice system.

Baroness Newlove of Warrington last week saw the work of Victim Support, whose small team of mainly volunteer counsellors last year gave emotional and practical support in 175 cases in the Island.

Her husband Gary was murdered by a gang of drunken youths outside the family home, and rose to prominence through leading campaigns for safer communities.

On her visit the Baroness launched Victim Support's new fund-raising campaign 'Commissioned' where local celebrities will be invited to donate their own art works to an online charity auction.

She says it's vital the voice of victims is heard when those who harmed them are dealt with:
