Adult Learners Week IOM is now being brought to the Island for the first time, during the week 18th to 24th May, with a number of free events being held at Tower House, Castle Street, Douglas and other event being held in different locations around Douglas.

The event will open at 11:30am in Tower House by Tony Wild MLC and the new Mayor of Douglas Carol Malarkey. with a series of presentations and displays following on until 4:30pm.

Adult Learners’ Week is effectively a free event open to anybody interested in learning for work or fun. A national celebration of the benefits of lifelong learning and is the perfect opportunity to explore the many types of learning available to adults from all walks of life.

The effects of adult learning can be transformative.  People find the confidence to overcome their own limitations, discover unimagined talents and pursue their dreams. Learning liberates people and can help them change their life.

Adult Learners’ Week celebrates and encourages this diversity of learning, pursued for so many different reasons by :

• recognising the achievements of outstanding individuals and innovative learning projects;
• encouraging participation in different kinds of learning, whether it is to improve prospects in a current role, start a new career, improve physical and mental health, learn skills to support family and community, improve essential skills for personal development and to deal with the demands of everyday life, or learn just for fun;
• offering organisations the chance to showcase the learning opportunities that they provide;  and
• shaping the debate about adult learning.

Adult Learners Week IOM & The IOM College of Further & Higher Education have come together to host the weeklong series of events and presentations throughout the week and to help launch the Adult Courses Brochure for the upcoming year.

The Dept of Economic Development will also attend to promote how they can assist to help adults enter learning to progress their work prospects.

Other events throughout the week are Presentations in top tips for a better CV, top tips to improve your interview technique, Renewable Energy & Environmental Awareness, Dyslexia in the Workplace and stress management.

Displays of Sculpting, Floral Art, Guitar Playing, Drawing and Painting, Hair Design techniques, Sugar Flowers, speed reading, mind mapping, a computer helpdesk and much more
