After a run of bad weather, Sunday provided glorious shooting conditions. Archers turning up expecting blowy weather had to shed layer upon layer of protective clothing. Sun glasses and sun cream were the order of the day.
Sunday’s round was a Hereford/Bristol I depending upon gender. The distances and number of arrows shot are the same for male and female archers alike, namely 6 dozen arrows at 80yds, 4 dozen at 60yds and 2 dozen at 50yds.
The Men’s Compound division had the largest field of the day with five competitors, including guest archer Ian Richardson from Holme Archery Club in Cumbria. His score was enough to secure second place from Dave Moore but the runaway winner was Simon Musgrove who finished 32 points ahead of his nearest rival.
In the Ladies Recurve, usual suspects Barbara Harris and Karen Lott were joined by 14 year old Charlotte Harris who was shooting a senior round for the first time. Charlotte made a terrific effort and put in a Junior Bowman Classification score of 626. Barbara Harris and Karen Lott were neck and neck over the first three dozen arrows but by the end of the fourth dozen Barbara had moved ahead and from then on opened up a gap that Karen could not bridge.
The Men’s Recurve also saw a three way tie between Rhys Moore, Rob Lott and Mat Smith. Rhys led from start to finish with Mat Smith taking a comfortable second.
The afternoon session saw the arrival of Adam Wright, Bradley Layton and Josh Trafford. The two more experienced Juniors shot a Junior National (4 dozen at 60yds, 2 dozen at 50yds) with Wright taking the win. Ever improving newcomer Josh shot a Short Junior National which comprises 4 dozen arrows at 30yds and 2 dozen at 20yds.
Everyone had a terrific day and all the archers are enjoying their new home turf at Greeba.
