DCCL Minister welcomes new Political Members

Hon Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure has today welcomed Mr Geoff Corkish MBE MLC and Mr David Quirk MHK as Political Members to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.
 
The Minister said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Mr Corkish MLC and Mr Quirk MHK to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure and I am greatly looking forward to working with them to deliver excellent services to the people of the Isle of Man.’
 
•         Geoff Corkish MBE MLC will take on responsibility for Community, Culture and Arts, including becoming Chair of the Isle of Man Arts Council and head up the 2014 Island of Culture.
 
•         David Quirk MHK has been delegated responsibility for the Wildlife Park and Manx National Heritage.
 
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure provides a wide range of services and facilities that enhance the quality of life in the Isle of Man.
 
It promotes and facilitates leisure, arts, recreation and sporting activity, with specific responsibility for the management of the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre, Curraghs Wildlife Park and National Sports Centre.  In addition to managing the Island’s major entertainment facilities, the Department is responsible for the provision of public transport services, both as essential economic infrastructure and key visitor attractions.
 
The Department is responsible for promoting Manx culture and encouraging the development of a caring community that gives all the people of the Island the freedom and opportunity to prosper and enjoy a high quality of life. It is also the sponsoring Department for Manx National Heritage, the Manx Heritage Foundation, the Office of Fair Trading, the Gaelic Broadcasting Committee, Manx Radio and the regional Swimming Pool authorities.
