Officers commended for rescuing child from fire

Two police officers who risked their lives to save a child in a daring nighttime rescue have been awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation.

Constables Tom Gascoyne and Ben Horan sprang into action in February when fire broke out in a third-floor flat at Spectrum Apartments ion Douglas Promenade.

They climbed across a balcony 60 feet up to break into the blazing flat and rescue the toddler.

The duo say they acted quickly as they weren't sure when the fire service would arrive:
