Star of India volunteer worker visits Ramsey

One of the volunteers who helps maintain an historic Manx-built vessel has been visiting the Island as she approaches a major landmark.

The Star of India, believed to be the oldest active sailing ship in the world, was constructed in Ramsey and launched 150 years ago this November.

She now resides in the San Diego Maritime Museum where she was restored, and now kept in immaculate condition, by a volunteer team.

Carl Scragg has been in Ramsey to see the shipyard where the Star was built.

He says besides her age there is something else which makes her very special:
