Diana Trust on target with ?20,000 for Hospice at Home

by isleofman.com 13th May 2013

Diana Princess of Wales Care at Home Trust recently presented a further ?20,000 towards the cost of providing the Hospice at Home service in the Isle of Man, achieving its target of ?50,000 for 2012.

Chairman of the Trust Ron Spencer: “We’re hugely grateful for all the support we’ve received to help provide a dedicated ‘Diana Nurse’ for the service in the Island, and in particular we’re indebted to the commitment of Lloyds TSB for a range of ongoing fundraising efforts.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to charitable initiatives and community support, Lloyds TSB on the Isle of Man announced its long-term engagement with the Island based organisation, Hospice at Home early last year.

Lloyds TSB encouraged employees to donate their time as well as their money to a series of events which took place throughout the year, including a charity quiz night at Bar George hosted by Guest Quizmaster Stuart Baggs of TV’s The Apprentice fame, cake bakes, charity auction dinners, an annual Golf Day, a colleague baton race between Lloyds TSB branches and three Lloyds TSB colleagues -  Jo Wright, Scott Beecroft and Jamie Hayes – even took part in the Good Friday Race, a gruelling 10 kilometre run on Port Erin and Port St. Mary’s notoriously hilly roads.

Trevor Kirk – Head of Isle of Man Corporate Banking at Lloyds and a volunteer Trustee
commented: “We are all very proud to choose Hospice at Home and of our colleagues’ unerring commitment to such a worthy cause. Hospice at Home’s dedicated volunteers and nurses provide untold comfort to those suffering from these debilitating illnesses and we are happy to offer our support wherever we can.”

Hospice Chief Executive Margaret Simpson thanked the Trust and added that without the Diana Trust‘s support providing a Hospice at Home service would be difficult.  Having a dedicated “Diana Nurse” funded by the Trust makes a big difference to patients who would like to be nursed and cared for in their own home rather than being admitted to hospice or hospital.  Their families are also benefitting from the additional support enabling them to carry on looking after their loved one.

Margaret added: “This ongoing support has made it possible to appoint a part time Diana Nurse – Barbara Lawton – who has been working with us now since late-2012. It is hoped that in future we can increase the hours of Hospice at Home provision from the current 900 each year to at least double this amount.”

Ron Spencer, Diana Trust Chairman: “With a further ?50k target for 2013 we would welcome any offers from companies who might consider us as one of their ‘charities of the year’ for 2013 and beyond.”
